Habitat Description: 
Just over the fenceline along the south side of the gravel road in dry clayey soil, in full sun.  Growing among brome grass, wild carrot, Virginia creeper, and plum thickets.

Description: 
Specimen: 
Small plant approximately 2 dm tall.  Milky sap in stem when cut. 

General: 
A rhizomatous perennial that spreads vigorously through vegetative means.  Opposite leaves approximately 3-5 cm long, fully doubly-serrate margins.  Upper surface of leaves pubescent with glandulor hairs.  Perigynous flowers.  Stamens 3 or rarely 5.  Fruit a nutlet.  Found in dry to moist waste areas throughout the upper midwest.  Previously classified with genus Maldipidaus
