ARC3-Survey-Report

32 2025 ARC3 SURVEY FINDINGS Sexual Harassment by a Student Participants were asked a series of questions about their experiences with other students since enrolling at Northern. While the majority reported never experiencing sexual harassment by another student, a small number indicated that they had experienced sexual harassment by a Northern student on more than one occasion. Since 2022, the results provided by participants decreased in their experiences with sexual harassment by a student with the exception of a slight increase in those experiencing gestures or used body language of a sexual nature that embarrassed or offended the individual. This represents a general improvement in campus sexual harassment climate compared to 2022. For individuals who indicated that they have experienced sexual harassment by a student were given follow up questions. The questions were geared toward one experience that had the greatest impact on them. According to the breakdown of prevalence data, 75% of survey participants were female and indicated 80% of the perpetrator was male. On the contrary, 25% of survey participants that indicated that they have experienced sexual harassment were male, about 25% perpetrators were female. The majority of participants indicated that the incident of sexual harassment happened on campus (75%), which is about 10% higher than 2022. The situation reported highest by participants was sexist or sexually offensive language, gestures, or pictures (63%), unwanted sexual attention (38%), and unwanted touching (19%). These numbers are lower than those who were reported in 2022; however, the situations reported are voluntary to the survey participant. Students also demonstrated greater assertiveness and help-seeking behaviors, with 50% telling the person to stop, an increase of 15% from 2022, and 44% seeking help from someone, which had previously been the lowest reported response. Taken together, these trends suggest increasing student empowerment, decreased prevalence of most forms of peer sexual harassment, and continued need for focused on-campus prevention efforts.
