Among these participants, 83% identified as female, and 75% identified the perpetrator as male. The majority of incidents occurred off campus (88%), a notable increase compared to 2022. Over half of perpetrators (56%) were reported as not being Northern students, while 38% were Northern students, reflecting a shift from 2022 when more incidents involved fellow students. Regarding substance use, 31% of participants indicated that they had consumed alcohol or drugs prior to the incident, while 33% had not. Most participants (81%) reported knowing their perpetrator, with relationships categorized as friends (31%), former romantic partners (25%), acquaintances (13%), current romantic partners (6%), or faculty/staff members (6%). When asked about their emotional response, 76% of participants reported feeling scared, 45% felt in danger, and 44% believed that the perpetrator would hurt them if they did not comply. These findings suggest an increased perception of threat to personal safety during incidents of sexual violence.
