43 2025 ARC3 SURVEY FINDINGS Institutional Responses Participants who indicated that they have experienced any sexual harassment, stalking, dating violence, or sexual violence were asked how Northern played a role in their experiences. The 2025 data demonstrated substantial improvements in institutional responses compared to 2022, reflecting meaningful progress in supporting students affected by sexual misconduct. Notable increases were observed in several key areas: participants who felt actively supported with formal or informal resources rose from 44% to 70%, and those who received an apology for what happened increased from 14% to 52%. Students also reported feeling more valued and supported, with perceptions of being treated as an important member of the institution rising from 54% to 61% and having their needs for support and accommodations met increasing from 54% to 61%. Additionally, the institution made significant strides in creating a safer and more responsive environment, with participants indicating that the campus was safe to discuss these experiences (56% → 77%) and recognized such experiences as a problem (53% → 74%). While smaller gains were seen in allowing students a say in how their report was handled (38% → 43%), perceptions of whether reports were believed remained consistent at 38%. Participants were also asked additional questions about how Northern played a role in their experiences of sexual misconduct. Since 2022, most responses indicate a positive correlation with institutional support. However, some negative experiences increased slightly, including perceptions of being punished in some way for reporting (increase of 16%), responding inadequately to their experiences (increase of 14%), mishandling their case if disciplinary action was requested (increase of 7%), and denying their experience in some way (increase of 6%). Overall, these findings highlight the positive impact of Northern’s ongoing programming, training initiatives, and supportive staff, demonstrating a stronger, more responsive environment that prioritizes student safety, empowerment, and access to resources, while also identifying areas for continued improvement.
