Student Affairs Strategic Plan 21 115. With the Pheasants Forever Student Chapter, host an annual hunt safe primer(s) for students, staff, and faculty with free gun locks. 116. With partners, establish mutual aid agreements to ensure that, in the event our residence halls or Wolves Den are rendered unusable due to emergencies such as fire or natural disaster, we can rely on partner institutions or community organizations to provide temporary housing and/or kitchen facilities to support students. In return, we are open to offering reciprocal support under similar circumstances. 117. With the Aberdeen Police Department, conduct a security review of the commencement ceremonies to ensure the safety and security of the event. 118. With Finance and Administration, establish a dedicated Title IX budget to ensure federal compliance. This budget will fund comprehensive and required trainings, educational initiatives, support services, and ongoing assessment of Title IX programs. 119. Build and publish Ready.Northern.edu as a web resource (modeled after ready.gov) for the emergency management plan, communication during emergencies, resources, and safety training. Build connected social media images and prepared messages to use in emergencies. 120. With Brown County Emergency Management, host two campus tabletop exercises per year to better train and coordinate emergency response across campus and local agencies. 121. With Nursing, offer first aid training for students, staff, and faculty. 122. Launch a 24-hour on-call program to support students, staff, and faculty in student distressing situations. 123. With Athletics, draft and approve a Student-Athlete Serious Misconduct Policy in compliance with SDBOR Policy 3.4.3. 124. With Aberdeen Police Department, form a working group to discuss and draft improvements to safety in the Aberdeen community and campus around high-risk drinking. 125. Conduct and score “proficient” on the NABITA Standards Self-Assessment for Behavioral Intervention Teams. 126. Create and publish Northern’s Stop Campus Hazing Act Report and roll out new required training. 127. Working with Aberdeen Police Department and Nursing, offer annual Narcan Administration Training for faculty, staff, and students. 128. Have a campus-wide values conversation/campaign about the Code of Conduct beyond a disciplinary framework to support Northern’s value of integrity. Objective 10. BUILD A CAMPUS RECREATION FACILITY: Future home for Campus Recreation and Intramurals, this shared facility would support student wellness, belonging, and retention efforts. See the Master Plan 63, from December 2023. Objective 11. RENOVATE THE STUDENT CENTER: “Traditionally considered the living room, the college union enhances the student experience and cultivates an enduring connection to the institution” ACUI, Role of the College Union. 129. Create a secure locker system in the Student Organization Hub to provide student organizations with accessible and organized storage for materials and supplies. 130. Complete a comprehensive review of public spaces in the Student Center and implement at least three evidence-based enhancements— such as biophilic design elements, school branding, and interactive storytelling features— to increase student, staff, and faculty engagement, as measured by a 20% increase in foot traffic.
