CLASS OF 1959 PAUL graduated from Corona High School in 1955 and from Northern State Teachers College in 1959, the same year he married Sonia Knudson. He received his Master of Education from Northern State College in 1967. Paul was a high school teacher and coach for 17 years in Wilmot, S.D., Edgemont, S.D., Arlington, S.D., Faulkton, S.D., and Selby, S.D. During those years, he coached football, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball and track. Paul and Sonia moved to New Evarts on Lake Oahe in 2005. Besides dedicating countless hours to “opening the gym,” Paul participated in independent basketball, baseball, golf and tennis. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and diehard NSU, Twins and Vikings fan. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sonia; four children: Karinda (Michael) Groothuis of Montevideo, Minn., NSU Foundation President and CEO Todd (Julie) Jordre of Aberdeen, Sharla (Scott) McCaskell of Rapid City, S.D., and Clark (Patti) Jordre of Onida; 10 grandchildren; two brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews. CURTIS DAVID LEMAIR, a Northern freshman from Prior Lake, Minn., passed away suddenly in his sleep due to an enlarged heart on Oct. 17, 2018, at age 18. On Feb. 11, 2000, Chad and Mona welcomed their son into the world. This was an extra special day, as it was Chad’s birthday. Curtis loved growing up in Prior Lake with his mom and dad and sisters, Jenna and Rachel. Curtis was a skilled and avid hunter. Curtis frequently had a hunting sidekick, his beloved black lab, Abe. As a family, the LeMairs spent a lot of time at their cabin in Northern Minnesota. Curtis began wrestling at age 4 and loved it from that moment on. He was a determined and dedicated competitor. He had great respect for all the people he wrestled with and against over the years through Prior Lake High school, Pinnacle Wrestling Club and Northern State Wrestling. Last spring, Curtis graduated from Prior Lake High School and began attending Northern. He had so much life ahead of him, and his family knows he would had done great things.  Curtis will be remembered always by his parents, Chad and Mona LeMair; sisters, Jenna and Rachel LeMair; grandparents, Greg and Sharon LeMair, Francisco (Cindy) Rivera, Leonard Prescott; great-grandmas, Beatrice LeMair and Bruna Longoria; other loving relatives and many dear friends. Curtis was greeted in Heaven by his grandma, Angela Prescott; uncle, David Prescott; aunt, Brooke LeMair; great- grandparents, Curtis Fanebust, Margaret Bly, Floyd LeMair, Robert Longoria, Jose and Josefa Rivera. Northern alumnus and longtime South Dakota coach Paul Jordre passed away in September. Curtis Lemair Kenneth Fiedler Paul Jordre NSU students, staff, athletes, coaches and community members gathered at a memorial service this fall for Wolves wrestler Curtis LeMair. KEN FIEDLER was born March 18, 1942, in Bowdle, S.D. to Harold and Clara (Rosin) Fiedler. He graduated from Java High School with the class of 1960. Ken was united in marriage to Diane C. Grandpre on Sept. 15, 1962, in Conde, S.D. The couple made their home in Java, where in September 1962, Ken began his career as a jack-of-all-trades at the hometown grocery store. In 1964, the couple moved to Aberdeen and Ken began working at what is now Ken’s SuperFair Foods. His hard work and determination led him to becoming manager in 1967. In 1972, Ken purchased the Aberdeen store, as well as the location in Ipswich, S.D. During the next few decades, he added stores in Groton, Watertown, Miller, Eureka, Clark and Britton, S.D. Ken currently owned stores in Aberdeen, Groton, Ipswich, Eureka, Clark and Britton. Ken and Diane raised three children and shared 43 years of marriage before she passed away on Sept. 26, 2005. Ken was passionate about his business and the community, serving on numerous boards including the Foundation Board of Northern State. In 1997, he was named South Dakota Retailer of the Year. Ken also had the pleasure of being named NSU “King of the Gyps.” Ken loved sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He enjoyed attending all Roncalli and Northern State University sporting events with the McNearys and the Scheids. Blessed to have shared in Ken’s life are his children: Paula Fiedler of Black Hawk, S.D., and Kevin (Heidi) Fiedler and Kerry (Keith) Brandenburger, both of Aberdeen; four grandchildren; and one brother. Longtime Northern supporter Kenneth Harold Fiedler, 76, of Aberdeen, passed away Aug. 15, 2018, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
