NORTHERN TODAY 38 SPECIAL I SSUE | Summer 2021 REVITAL IZATION OF CAMPUS | A SALUTE TO OUR DONORS IT HAS BEEN an incredible opportunity to be part of each and every one of these projects, three funded by the EIC, the Jewett Regional Science Education Center, Great Plains East and West, Wolves Memorial Suites and the renovation of the Johnson Fine Arts Center. This journey started as an intriguing conversation and with commitment and perseverance one project after another turned into reality. I can’t say enough good things about all of the people involved in these projects. First, I am so grateful to the many donors whose generosity made these projects possible. Obviously, none of this would have been possible without their support. I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to work with so many talented contractors, architects and engineers who each took a great deal of pride in putting their skills to use to leave their unique mark on these projects. Over the course of the construction of each project, long-lasting friendships evolved as everyone worked together toward the common goal of producing a top-quality, beautiful finished product that will serve students for many generations to come. I’m thankful to the Board of Regents, the Legislature and the governors who supported each of these projects. I appreciate the partnerships with the city of Aberdeen, the Aberdeen School District, SDSBVI and the campus neighbors as we worked through the logistics of things like property lines and traffic flow. Another valuable partner is the NSU Foundation, whose support and involvement in these projects has been phenomenal. I am also very proud of the Northern faculty and staff who were involved in designing these facilities with a focus on providing the best campus experience possible for our students. Last, but not least, I am extremely thankful for the faculty, staff and students who played a role in each of these projects by participating in design and construction meetings, adjusting schedules to accommodate multiple power outages, processing multitudes of paperwork, learning to operate new equipment and maintain new building systems, and figuring out network lines and new technology. This transformation of campus is truly something for the entire community to be proud of. What’s the legacy you want to leave behind? Please come and take a look around campus and you will see the vision that has turned into a legacy that will support the education of many generations of students yet to come. From Finance and Administration ‘Transformational!’ That is the word that comes quickly to mind when I think about all of the changes that have occurred on campus since 2015.
