52 “Dad, look who I brought with me.” He bent down and opened the box he had brought with him. His father’s eyes lit up as soon as he saw what his son had in his hands. The young man placed the beloved bird gently in the old man’s lap. The older man could not have looked happier at that moment. “Dad, whenever you feel confused or lonely or whenever I can’t be with you, I want you to hold Monty and think of me. Monty is going to be your very best penguin friend, okay?” The old man’s eyes filled with grateful tears and he gave a simple nod in response. From that moment on, Monty was there for the old man. When he was scared and lonely, his son would hand him Monty. When he couldn’t remember where he was, his son would place Monty on his lap. When he was in distress, his son would bring him Monty. The young man would always be at his father’s side no matter how big or small the need might have been. And sometimes, just for fun, the young man, his father, and Monty would go to the zoo and look at the goings on of the penguins. Some waddled. Some swam. Some ate. Some even slept standing up.
