57 The Hitchhiker Sarah Meland I’m so stupid. She realizes now that she probably shouldn’t have told her brother what classroom she was in, but she hadn’t been thinking when he had texted her. However, they’re here now. Megan knows that her brother doesn’t have his gun on him, but his new “friend” has a gun, silencer included, that he certainly seems to love to wave around. If it wouldn’t get her in trouble she’d go up and whack her idiot of a brother on the head for getting into this kind of thing. They’re all sitting at lab tables at the moment so it’s safe to assume that at least one person has called the cops by now because they’re spread out. Well, it’s a good possibility at least. Then again, they did knock out the professor when they first got here and told everyone to “shut the hell up and don’t move”. All of a sudden her brother is moving towards her with a purposeful look on his face and grabs her arm so that she’s pulled from her chair. He stands a good half foot taller than her so she has to look up to give him a glare. Not impressed brother, not at all. He gives her a grin, brown eyes going soft for a second as he takes in her defiance that lasted all through their childhood. Somethings never change, and their ability to read each other has always come easy. “Time to stop playing, Megan. You can drop the act.” It’s all he says as he drops her arm and waits for a response. She gives a quick glance over to his “friend” who seems just as confused as the rest of the class by what’s happening. Looking back at her brother, she takes another moment to come to her decision. So much for asking out the cute guy a few tables away. Oh well. Megan waits one more moment before everything about her changes. She goes from shy, innocent little girl to a devious seductress with one smile. “I thought you’d never ask.” Taking a step towards her brother, she lets herself be pulled into a hug. He grips her tight and is whispering into her hair so that no one can see. “Gun’s under his jacket.” Pulling away, she gives him a smile that says she’s got it. Megan stays close as they both turn towards his “friend”, who’s still staring at them with confusion on his face. “What? He’s never told you about me? Never said the reason he wanted to go into this campus classroom?” Megan starts to question him as she slowly saunters towards him. “Can’t say that he has, just who the hell are you?” Throwing her brother a look over her shoulder, Megan gives him a quick wink and turns to smile at his “friend”. “I’m his little sister, Megan.” It’s all the information she gives him before pulling him into a searing kiss. She remembers that the easiest way to pick-pocket someone is when they’re focused on something else. As he responds, Megan’s able to pull the gun from him and keep it out of sight when she steps away. “Welcome to the family.” Hope the rest goes as smoothly as that did. Quickly turning back to her brother with the gun in front of her Megan walks the few steps and gives her brother a kiss on the cheek while handing over the gun between them and flashing a look to her classmates to stay quiet. She spins back towards the other guy and gives him a once over as her brother hides the gun in his jacket. “Sooo, is there a plan here? Because from my calculations, you have roughly thirty minutes before you have to leave and have enough time to make yourselves unnoticeable. Unless you two were planning on sticking around?” He looks slightly miffed by the fact that Megan is taking charge, no longer a damsel but a contender that could mess up his plans. “Why thirty minutes?” “Well, Mr.?” “Andy, you can call me Andy.” “Okay, Andy, seeing as you and Blake came here just as class was starting, and it’s been a little while, that means the next class is going to be walking through those doors in roughly forty minutes. I’m pretty sure neither of you want to be caught just yet. Right, Blake?” “She has a point Andy.” Blake easily agrees with his sister to get Andy on board. “Fine, but only because she’s the one that’s gonna be giving the police a statement when we leave. Can’t have them thinking I have a partner now or that I favor anyone.” “Of course. Nothing beats being shot by your own brother so that I can have an excuse for being alive, and you can have more publicity. We can even have some family bonding later when you visit me at the hospital, right Blake?” Megan states with a hint of exasperation and then gives both men a devious look as she grabs Blake by the arm, pulling him close. “And because I’m the one that has to be shot, I get to shoot first, right?”
