NORTHERN TODAY 15 FALL 2020 NSU Athletics to resume competitions in January Northern State Wolves Athletics has announced its 2021 men’s and women’s basketball seasons. NSU Student-Athletes hit the books, producing record-breaking semester Northern State University student-athletes finished up the 2019-20 academic year with a 3.36 cumulative GPA. THE MORE THAN 370 student- athletes posted a department term GPA of 3.42, marking the 12th semester in a row above a 3.30 and the highest semester mark on record. “I could not be more proud of the hard work of our student-athletes in the classroom this spring,” explained Josh Moon, Director of Athletics. “To achieve the highest semester GPA in the history of NSU Athletics during the very challenging circumstances over the past three months is simply incredible. This is a tremendous testament to the quality and focus of the student-athletes we have at NSU, and the awesome work of our coaches, faculty, and staff who work every day to support them.” Northern State volleyball led the way in the department with a 3.8 mark, closely followed by women’s basketball and women’s cross country posting 3.7 team GPAs. Soccer, softball, and women’s track and field came in at a 3.5, while baseball recorded a 3.4. Men’s basketball, men’s cross country, swimming, and wrestling each tallied a 3.3, while football and men’s track and field rounded out the department with marks of 3.2 and 3.0. BOTH TE AMS along with wrestling and swimming will kick off their seasons in January, following a fall semester with no competitions held due to COVID-19. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference will continue monitoring conditions surrounding the pandemic in 2021. At Northern, precautionary measures will remain in effect at the Barnett Center.
