NORTHERN TODAY 18 FALL 2021 CLASS NOTES 1978 John and Judy Hilleson both retired in May 2021. Judy spent 34 years with the Sioux Falls School District, and John is retiring after a long career in nonprofit organizations, most recently with Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. 1986 Jeff Peterson, following retirement, has hiked the Appalachian Trail (2,190 miles) and multiple sections of the Camino de Santiago (820 miles), in Spain and Portugal, for the following charities: Sun Dial Manor, K-9’s for Warriors, and the Down Syndrome Program at Boston Children’s Hospital. He raised a total of $104,000. Beginning June 13, 2021, Jeff biked from Seattle, Wash., to Key West, Fla., (almost 5,000 miles) for these same charities. 1994 Susan “Stella” Shaffer worked as a radio announcer at KKAA when it was a brand new station in Aberdeen.
