GLENNA ( SCHAUER ) FOUBERG was born Sept. 1, 1942, at St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, where she passed away on Jan. 5, 2021. She was raised in Ashley, N.D., and graduated from Ashley High School in 1960. A lifelong educator in and out of the classroom, Glenna earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Northern State University in 1963, a master’s degree in counseling from SDSU in 1968 and an honorary doctorate from NSU in 2002. During her career, Glenna taught at Eielson AFB-Alaska and in Sisseton, Bristol, Webster and Aberdeen. Shortly after moving to Sisseton, she met the love of her life. Rodney and Glenna were married on July 31, 1965, and enjoyed over 55 years of marriage full of learning, joy and love. They traveled throughout the United States and internationally. By Dr. Elizabeth Haller ON DEC . 1 8 , 2020 , the College of Arts and Sciences lost a dear friend and dedicated colleague with the passing of Roger Hoffman. For the past 23 years, Roger served as a facilities worker at Northern, with his primary responsibilities being custodial services in Mewaldt-Jensen and the Technology Center. Roger lived in Ellendale, N.D., and traveled to work in Aberdeen each morning before sunrise. It was readily evident that Roger took a great deal of pride in his work. He could be seen walking the halls daily, making ROGER HOFFMAN 1960-2020 GLENNA (SCHAUER) FOUBERG 1942-2021 As dedicated as she was to education, Glenna was even more passionate about her family, as well as helping people. She had a strong mind and a stronger heart, seeing value in everyone and guiding them toward success. Everyone she met became a friend, and anyone who met Glenna was left a better person for it – especially her students. Glenna is survived by her husband, Rodney; two sons, Robert (Erin) and Daniel (Nancy); four grandchildren, Margaret, Henry, Abigail and Andrew; brothers-in- law Stanley (Sharon) Fouberg and Harvey (Karen) Fouberg; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by infant daughter Margaret Ann; parents, Andrew and Lydia Schauer; brother, Herbert (Mary) Schauer; two sisters, Emily (Leo) Feiock and Ruby (Marvin) Sukut; mother- and father-in-law, Omer and Lucile Fouberg; and brother-in-law, Dennis Fouberg. sure all spaces were clean and organized, and he was always willing to help whenever and wherever needed. Roger and I exchanged stories about Halloween, one of his favorite holidays. Each year he would dress up and attend the Halloween costume party and dance at the Moose Lodge. I loved seeing him laugh and smile as he showed me photos of the event and of his costume. We also talked about our pets. He had two cats – his little girl and boy, Kallie and Sebastian. He adored those kitties, and he always had such great stories about them, especially Sebastian, because he was the younger, more mischievous of the two. The halls seem a little empty now that Roger is gone, and he won’t be stopping in to our offices anymore to say “Hi” or to ask how we’re doing, but for those who were fortunate enough to interact regularly with Roger, it was truly an honor to have known him. His kind words, his sweet demeanor, and his gentle wit will always be missed. NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSI TY | Alumni
