NORTHERN TODAY 9 SPRING 2021 OUR GROUPS of students worked on service learning projects with the following local organizations: Boys and Girls Club of Aberdeen Area, Aberdeen Area Humane Society, Salvation Army and Aberdeen Family YMCA. The projects were made possible thanks to NSU Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Pedagogy Grants (CETL). “The service learning projects have been an educational opportunity, allowing students to develop a project that benefits an organization and its stakeholders,” said Dr. Kristi Bockorny, associate professor of management. “Due to the CETL grant, the students have also gained experience in developing and managing a budget.” Dr. Ben Harley, CETL Director, said the center is thrilled to see the grant money being used to facilitate this kind of service learning. “These types of pedagogies demonstrate to students the ways in which the things they are learning in the classroom can impact their communities,” Harley said. “Also, by providing students with real audiences, these projects redefine what it means to do well on an assignment. This is exactly the kind of work we were hoping to promote through these grants.” NSU students in Business Leadership class worked on service learning projects During spring semester, students in the Northern State University Business Leadership class worked on projects that made a difference in the community.
