14 Student Privacy (FERPA) What is FERPA? Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA): Student records maintained by Northern State University include directory information and educational records. As custodians of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), NSU assumes the obligation to ensure full protection of student records, including maintaining the confidentiality of educational records. Student records are identified and accessed by student ID number.
