STUDENT AFFAIRS 18 ANNUAL REPORT Mielke and Beitelspacher Celebrate 30 Years Serving Students On Aug. 30, 2023, Student Affairs celebrated Jerilyn Mielke’s 30th year as a Northern employee and colleague. “Jerilyn’s presence and strong support of students, staff, and faculty is well-known throughout campus. We are grateful for her dedication to Northern,” said Sean Blackburn, dean of students. Colleagues were encouraged to drop off a card or note to recognize Jerilyn’s outstanding service to Northern through her long-time colleague Judy Lapka prior to a reception held on Wednesday, Sept. 6. (As Jerilyn does not like to be the center of attention, she was sick on August 30!) Sidney Beitelspacher (cook-extraordinaire) celebrated 30 years in Dining Services at Northern on Aug. 31, 2023. A drop-in reception was held in his honor to recognize his significant impact on dining and students for the past three decades. Sidney has served students in Lincoln and Jerde Dining Halls, and the Wolves Den in the Student Center over his tenure. He has proudly guided volunteers at Late Night Breakfast for many years and enjoys getting to know students and honing his recipes and menus. Jerilyn and Sidney have both promised to work for many, many more years at Northern.
