STUDENT AFFAIRS 20 ANNUAL REPORT Welcome Sodexo Campus New Food Service provider to join Northern in May 2022. Michael David Langelier (1968-2022) Michael Langelier unexpectedly passed away at his home on Feb. 22, 2022, after suffering from a heart attack. A cook and beloved member of Dining Services and Aramark Higher Education team, he will be missed by all. From his obituary: “Michael Langelier was a loving father and husband. He was a huge Buffalo Bills fan but also loved all sports. Michael grew up in Fitchburg, MA with his father David Langelier, Martha Langelier, and brother Brian Langelier. Michael graduated from Fitchburg High School and had many childhood friends he grew up with. Michael also loved spending as much time as he could with his five children Bo, Yvonne, Jesse, Nicholas, and Reilly. Michael was known to be a very outgoing, personable, very approachable and a hilarious guy to be around. Michael is described to be a person to constantly light up a room. Michael leaves behind a lot of friends and family and will be greatly missed.” Dec. 14, 2021 - The South Dakota Board of Regents (SDBOR) announced that the SDBOR Food Service RFP Committee had recommend Sodexo America, LLC as the new food service provider for all six SDBOR campuses, effective summer 2022. Sodexo America was recommended because of the overall technical and financial offerings and improved affordability for students. Sodexo representatives were on campus in December to provide information to existing employees about employment opportunities with the company. “100% of current frontline employees will be retained providing they complete the onboarding process and pass a background check. Should there be a staff opening, we will fill the position directly from the local community and preferably with a SDBOR student to give them opportunities to reduce educational debt and gain real-world employment experience,” announced Sodexo in their bid for services. We are excited about a number of changes that will begin in summer 2022 that will have a very positive impact on students and campus. Those include: Year One (summer 2022): • Meal plan costs will be slightly lower the fall 2022 semester than the fall 2021 semester. • A refresh of Einstein Bros. Bagels to update brand standards. • The conversion of Great Plains East P.O.D. Market to the Grid Market to include Created with Love rotating retail concepts, Le Bread Express robotic micro bakery, and self-checkout. • Wolves Attacking Hunger, a new food insecurity program similar to “Swipe Out Hunger” • Fanthology Game Day Fan Food concessions program in Dacotah Bank Stadium Year Two (summer 2023): • Refresh and rebrand the Wolves Den Dining Hall. • Introduction of Tuk Tuk food truck to expand dining options to underserved areas of campus. We are very grateful to Aramark, Higher Education, and JoLee R. Frederiksen, District Manager for South Dakota, Iowa, Oregon and Washington for their excellent service to our students over the past many years. Transitioning a food service provider is a significant task requiring support from all over campus. Our sincere appreciation to Vice President Veronica Paulson and Director of Residence Life and Dining Services Marty Sabolo for guiding Northern through this process and creating an organized implementation plan. To facilitate these efforts, several new Key Results were added to the Student Affairs Strategic Plan (2020-25) to support this important change to our student offerings.
