STUDENT AFFAIRS 24 ANNUAL REPORT Marty L. Sabolo, Director of Residence Life and Dining Services, taught a First Year Seminar (IDL 190) course entitled College: More Than Just a Teen Movie during fall 2021. Sabolo serves as Co-Chair of the Wolf Pack Welcome Committee, a member of the Northern CARES Team, a member of the Security Systems Oversight Committee, and is a Team Lead on the Dining Services Transition Team. Sabolo is serving his second two-year term as President of the Aberdeen Housing Authority and was appointed as Vice-Chair of the Avera Hospital Patient Advisory Board. He also serves as a founding Board Member of a new nonprofit corporation, Housing Plus Inc., that will assess the needs of the low income and homeless population in the Aberdeen community and assist with funding sources to support permanent housing solutions. Angela Senger, Campus Police Officer, has served in her role for over five years at Northern State University and is in her 23rd year as an officer with the Aberdeen Police Department. She coordinated and presented ALICE Active Shooter training open to faculty and staff on campus as well as simulated active shooter drills to various departments. Senger attended the Threat Assessment Workshop by the Great Plains Chapter of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. She was instrumental in providing guidance on the outdoor security camera review as a subcommittee member of the Security Systems Oversight Committee. During the summer months, Senger can be found on patrol or working in specialized units. In addition to her work on the patrol unit, Senger volunteers her time to coordinate two special events in the Aberdeen community: Special Olympics Torch Run and National Night Out. The Torch Run is an annual run for athletes in Special Olympics. Law Enforcement Officers and athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” from town to town until opening ceremony. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and provides opportunities for citizens to interact with local first responders. Christina B. Shilman, Staff Counselor, attended the 2022 South Dakota Counseling Association conference and served on the inaugural Mental Health Week Committee. Shilman presented Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) suicide prevention trainings for various classes and groups throughout the year. Her Plan of Supervision for licensure was approved by the South Dakota Board of Examiners for Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists. In her free time, Shilman runs her own photography business, Paisley Tree Photography. Kelly A. Weismantel, transitioned from Staff Counselor in Counseling Services to Assistant Director of Student Accessibility Services in May 2022. Kelly maintains memberships with the Aberdeen Chapter of Pheasants Forever, Elks Club, Driftbusters Snowmobile Club, and the Ft. Sisseton Historical Society. Bradley D. Wolfe, Assistant Director of Residence Life, Camps and Conferences, accepted a position at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Ind., as their new Director of Residence Life in June 2022. Mr. Wolfe continued his course work in his Doctoral of Education, Higher Education Leadership program at Maryville University. Mr. Wolfe is working on his dissertation on “Stress and Coping Strategies’ used by live-in residence life professionals.” Mr. Wolfe also participated in the 2021 ACUHO-I Conference & Expo. Thomas Williams, Assistant Director for Multicultural Student Affairs, served as a panelist for the adult aged participants at Cultures on the Prairie of Southwest Minnesota Conference and was appointed Northern’s NCAA Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID) by President Schnoor.
