STUDENT AFFAIRS 31 ANNUAL REPORT Prevention Services: NSU Prevention Services supports the health and wellbeing of the NSU campus community by helping students to make low-risk decisions and drive change toward a safe and healthy campus community. Prevention Services delivers evidence-based inclusive programming, services, and initiatives that empower students to make positive choices. Evidence-based programming is used to raise awareness and change environmental factors that can contribute to highrisk decisions. The Insight Program offers a range of services designed to help students evaluate their risk regarding alcohol and substance abuse through an evidence-based approach. NSU Prevention Services is accredited by the Department of Social Services and hosts the NSU Campus Community Coalition, serving the Aberdeen community. Residence Life and Dining Services: Focused on providing a positive housing and dining experience by serving, developing, and supporting students in their educational endeavors while offering an engaging, safe living and learning environment within a strong community. Our team is responsible for the management of 850 beds (traditional and suite style) within 7 residence halls; 3 of which were constructed in the past five years. Our Dining Services team is responsible for the management of the Wolves Den and Einstein Bros.® Bagels, and the P.O.D. Market offering Papa John’s Pizza, as well as providing catering operations for the campus community. Student Accessibility Services: The mission of Student Accessibility Services is to provide equal access to university programs as mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Accessibility Services coordinates academic support services, advocates for students with disabilities and promotes student development and selfadvocacy while serving as a resource on disability awareness and accommodations. Student Government Association: Student Government Association (SGA) is responsible for representing Northern’s student body, governing student interests, advocating for student concerns, providing support and recognition for recognized student organizations, allocating student fees, and serving students by hosting activities and events that enhance student life. Student Involvement and Leadership: From supporting student organizations to creating opportunities for connection, Student Involvement & Leadership (SIL), encourages students to find their place at Northern, fostering a community of belonging. SIL oversees student organizations, Campus Activities Board, Homecoming, Student Government Association, WAVE, New Student Programs, and leadership initiatives. Student Organizations: Northern has over 40 recognized student organizations where students can explore their passions and build community. Organizations include academic, cultural and ethnic, special interests, fine arts, and faith based. A thriving student organization program is a critical component of an active and lively campus community. They provide students valuable leadership experiences, create a sense of belonging, help create workforce-ready graduates, and contribute to campus culture in immeasurable ways. Student Rights and Responsibilities: Administers the Student Code of Conduct and provides outreach to the campus community on safety, security, and other issues important to student success. Utilizing a restorative process, the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities educates students to strive for excellence, cultivate personal and academic integrity, contribute to the larger community, take seriously the perspectives of others, and develop competence in ethical and moral reasoning and action. Summer Camps and Conferences: Focused upon providing camps and conferences services to local, state, and national constituents, the program has 7 residence halls and 850 beds available for use in a variety of layouts including traditional and suite style. Camp Services provides basic residence hall rooms in which guests provide their own linens. Conference Services includes residence hall rooms with linens and enhanced services including floating check-in/check-out times and guest service hours. As part of our Camps and Conference Services we provide hospitality packages that include space usage in the Avera Student Center and meal service with our food service partner, Sodexo. Title IX: The Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities/Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s Title IX efforts, including the development, implementation, and oversight of disclosures, policies, and procedures to comply with Title IX of the Higher Education Act of 1972. Other responsibilities include training and education surrounding the complaint procedure, available resources, interim measures, and resolution options.
