Admission to Teacher Education Requirements Undergraduate Admission to teacher education is required for all students expecting to complete a degree granting teacher education program or a post-baccalaureate certification program which leads to initial certification in any teaching field. In compliance with the state of South Dakota and regional and national accrediting bodies, the School of Education administers a formal selection process for persons who seek to enter teacher education programs. The process dictates that a candidate accomplish the requirements outlined below. Earned a content and cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher Completed ENGL 101 with a C or higher. Completed SPCM 101, 215, or 222 with a C or higher. Completed EPSY 302 with a C or higher. Completed MATH 103 or higher level Math course) with a C or higher o If a candidate did not earn a C in Math 103 (or higher # math course), then a candidate may meet the math requirement if s/he achieved a Math ACT subtest score of 22 or higher. Completed the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (CORE) exams ONLY IF their ACT composite (overall) score was 18 or lower: o Reading score of 140 or higher o Writing score of 150 or higher o Math score of 132 or higher Pre-Admission Disposition Evaluations o EDFN 102 professor o SPED 100 professor o EPSY 302 professor o Cooperating teacher in Pre-Admission Field Experience Recommendation of the advisor(s) Once all requirements/prerequisites have been met, candidates may access the Teacher Education Program Application online at: http://northern.formstack.com/forms/programapp Post-Baccalaureate candidates Apply for admission at the NSU Office of Admissions Meet with academic advisor
