WHAT IS RISING SCHOLARS? • Rising Scholars concurrent enrollment courses are taught by high school teachers AT your high school. • High School teachers teach collegiate courses through rigorous standards set by the South Dakota Board of Regents. • Similar to Dual Credit – students will earn both high school AND collegiate credits, but Rising Scholars are taught at your high school with an instructor NOT online.

Who’s Eligible for Rising Scholars? Juniors…. Juniors need: • ACT Composite score or superscore of 24 OR • Rank in upper one third of their graduating class OR • Earn a Cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale

Seniors need: • ACT Composite score or superscore of 21 OR • Rank in upper half of their graduating class OR • Cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale Who’s Eligible for Rising Scholars? Seniors….

Eligibility continued… • Students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 in Rising Scholars or HSDC courses to be in good academic standing. • If lower, the student will be unable to register for the following term.

Math and English Placement In addition to qualifying to be admitted to the Rising Scholars program, students must meet BOR placement standards for MATH and ENGL courses. Please see MATH and ENGL placement tables found in Rising Scholars Student Handbook.

National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnership (NACEP) NACEP accreditation confirms that NSU Rising Scholars has met high standards in curriculum, faculty, student services, assessment and evaluation. Northern State University (NSU) is the ONLY South Dakota university with this accreditation.

How do I Register? New and Returning Students will need to fill out an application and submit it to your high school Counselor. Note: You will need your parents/guardian's signature on this form and there IS a deadline. So don’t wait. After receiving confirmation of your registration, set up your NSU Email. Like every other college student, you will need to abide by important dates throughout the semester, including Add and Drop dates. What if I want to take a class from my high school teacher, but NOT earn college credit? Fill out the Opt Out Form and turn it in to your high school counselor. Once this form is received, you will not be eligible to register for credit for that course during the semester.

IMPACT ON FUTURE FINANCIAL AID Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress to receive federal financial aid. Maintain cumulative GPA of 2.0&67% completion rate of all credits attempted. Any college credit that a student attempts, including Rising Scholar courses, becomes part of your permanent academic record. The total number of credits completed determines grade level. Grade level is important for both federal loan amounts as well as some scholarships. Scholarships for first-year Northern students DUAL CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP for after high school! You may qualify for a Northern dual credit scholarship of $500 for up to 8 credits and $1,000 for 9 or more credits! No need to apply - it's automatic. You'll still be eligible for other scholarships, including Northern's WolfPACT! Northern's WolfPACT unleashed is the largest guaranteed scholarship in the region! The WolfPACT Scholarship is available for first-time freshmen. Ask NSU Financial Aid for more details!
