NORTHERN TODAY 7 Northern ACCOMPLISHMENTS 1950s Irene (Deibert) Ziegler, Mobridge, was honored for her longtime work with the Mobridge chapter of the Women of the Moose. She was named the 2008 International Co-worker of the Year for North and South Dakota by officals in Mooseheart. Ardis (Bessler) Mottle was honored for 24 years of volunteer services at Avera St. Luke’s Gift Shop. 1960s Sally (Feeney) Johnston, Aberdeen, was presented with the Peg Lamont Volunteer Service Award for her service at the Dacotah Prairie Museum. Rev. David Janes, Groton, was honored for the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. 1970s Jim Soyer received the 2008 Legacy of Public Leadership Employee Award from the W.O. Farber Center for Civic Leadership and Students of Public Administration. The award recognizes an outstanding government worker in South Dakota who has illustrated exemplary leadership skills. Phyllis(Ristau) Haselhorst was named the “Outstanding Auxilian of the Year” for 2007 by the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries. Judy (Elliott) Grams had her first book published “Marks of Christ: Lessons from the Fruit of the Spirit” in December 2007. Tevan (Cronk) Fischbach, Aberdeen, was honored for 30 years of service at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired as an instructor. Allen Mohr, Redfield, was recognized for his 25 years of service at the South Dakota Developmental Center. R. Lee Ginsbach, Aberdeen, was honored for 25 years of service at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired as business manager. Marie (Malsam) Schumacher, Aberdeen, was awarded the Stanley Sr. and Ilene Schmidt Teacher of the Year Award as fourth grade teacher at Roncalli. Frances (Hansen) Shaff, Rice Lake, Wis., received the Herbert W. Blakely Award for her paper “Precious Cargo: Orphaned Children Find Homes via the Orphan Trains”. The award is given each year to a professional author whose paper, presented at the previous conference, is judged to be of superior merit. 1980s Lela (Sieger) Holcomb, Bath, was honored for 25 years of teaching at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Candice Lee, Aberdeen, was honored for 15 years of service at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired as an instructor. Lisa (Hansen) McNeely, Redfield, was named the 2008 South Dakota American Legion Educator of the Year. Renae (Thorstenson) Rausch, Grand Forks, N.D., was selected as North Dakota’s Special Education Teacher of the Year. Barb (Kuecker) Sitter, Aberdeen, was recongnized for her 20 years of service at the South Dakota Developmental Center. 1990s Brent Heinert, Hoven, has been promoted to president of Plains Commerce Bank. Fran Esser, Redfield, was selected as the National Wrestling Coach of the Year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. Jodi (Fischer) Carlsgaard, Aberdeen, was honored for five years of service at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired as an instructor. 2000s Garrett Campbell has been named head football coach at Illinois College. Lisa M. (Konechne) Peterson, Aberdeen, was awarded the Stanley Sr. and Ilene Schmidt Teacher of the Year Award for junior high math at Roncalli High School. Faculty Gayle Bortnem, Aberdeen was awarded the NSU Outstanding Faculty Member Award. She was selected for this honor based on her community, as well as teaching and reserarch excellence at NSU. Friend Keith Hainy was honored for 25 years of service with North Central Farmers Elevator in Ipswich Helen Schultz was honored by the Aberdeen Area Senior Center by dedicating the activity room in her name. Jim Barringer, Aberdeen, was presented with a Citation Individual award from the International Association of Workforce Professionals. Ron J. Hall, Aberdeen, was recongnized for his 11 years of service on the South Dakota Board of Bar Examiners. Please print legibly.
