NORTHERN TODAY 3 Dr. James M. Smith will officially take the helm as the 16th president of Northern State University on July 1, 2009. Smith and his wife Connie bring a vast collection of experiences and knowledge to lead Northern State to a strong and successful future. Smith, who describes the institution as a warm and inviting, student-centered institutionwith great value for the overall education experience, is looking forward to his new position and becoming a member of the Aberdeen community. “Northern State has great community support, great interest in broad-based economic development, and is friendly and warm with superb opportunities to tie the university with the community and the community with the university!” said Smith. “It is the essence of what I have seen and believe.
