NORTHERN TODAY 5 FALL 2017 NORTHERN NEWS New School for the Blind and Visually Impaired: The proposed site of the new SDSBVI is the current site of NSU’s Jerde Hall, which is scheduled for demolition in 2018. The estimated completion of the new school is in fall 2019. The most up-to-date information on NSU building projects is available at northern.edu/master-plan . NSU’s athletic and recreation fields project: This provides a new competition field for the women’s soccer team and a new practice field for the football team, located east of Jerde Hall, with an estimated completion of fall 2018. NSU-SDSBVI collaborative project This fall the South Dakota Board of Regents approved a preliminary facility statement and facility program plan for construction of a new School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; a facility program plan for NSU’s athletic and recreation fields project; and a preliminary facility statement for an on-campus regional sports complex. Each part of this multi-tiered Educational Impact Campaign relies on the others, and none of it is expected to require legislative funding. On-campus regional sports complex: The proposed site of the complex, which will feature a football stadium and softball field, is the current SDSBVI site, with estimated completion in fall 2022. The other hall, which is being built at the former site of Lindberg Hall, will be designed with a series of semi-suites and suites offering both double and single rooms. The center, which will be built at the corner of South State Street and Twelfth Avenue Southeast, will be the first stand-alone classroom building added to campus in more than 50 years.
