NORTHERN TODAY 3 FALL 2020 E REMA I NED on campus all semester. It’s been a trying time, but we came together as a team and persevered through a challenging situation. I’m grateful to every student, staff and faculty member for doing their part. In this issue, you’ll read about some of the ways our campus community adjusted to learning during the pandemic, including adapting to the HyFlex instruction model, offering on-campus COVID-19 testing and holding socially distanced homecoming activities. You’ll also read about other points of pride for Northern, including our student-athletes earning an outstanding GPA, and our new buildings receiving prestigious design awards. Looking ahead, next semester will likely require continued vigilance. We’ll need to keep making responsible decisions, such as wearing masks and practicing social distancing, to keep our campus and community safe. We know we can do it; I have every confidence we can achieve a successful spring semester of in-person instruction. For now, let’s take this holiday season to ref lect on our accomplishments with gratitude and pride. Let’s rest up and recharge, so we can return to campus in January ready to finish out the academic year strong. Timothy M.
