NORTHERN TODAY 3 SPRING 2021 HAT AN EXC I T I NG T IME to be a Northern State University Wolf – I am thrilled to be back! I look forward to celebrating the energy and momentum that are unique to Northern, and using our newfound assets to help the university and NSU Foundation move into the future. I am appreciative and will be respectful of my new role as President and CEO of the NSU Foundation. Looking around Northern’s campus, I’m amazed at how the building projects have transformed the experience of being a wolf. As of fall 2021, Northern will have added three new residence halls; the state-of-the-art Jewett Regional Science Education Center; partnered on the new South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; renovated the Johnson Fine Arts Center; added the Athletic and Recreation Fields; and are putting finishing touches on the Regional Sports Complex, including Dacotah Bank Stadium, Koehler Hall of Fame Softball Field and other university/community use spaces. NSU is also developing cutting-edge academic programs, such as a B.S. in Biochemistry, building up Graduate Studies programs, expanding opportunities for students in the Millicent Atkins School of Education, and other innovations in Arts and Sciences, Business, Honors, Fine Arts and other programs. This issue of Northern Today features stories that highlight what is going on in Wolves Country. I hope you will join me in celebrating the forward momentum Northern State University has built. We owe a great debt of gratitude to alumni, donors, business partners and the community, as well as my predecessor Todd Jordre, the Educational Impact Campaign Committee, the NSU Foundation Board, the Board of Regents and former NSU President Dr. Tim Downs. Making the kinds of changes seen on NSU’s campus were not easy, but enjoying the fruits of everyone’s labor should be. Please join us this fall as we celebrate on-campus activities, sporting events, Fine Arts performances and Gypsy Days 2021. Again, thank you for your continued belief and trust in all that Northern has to offer.
