NORTHERN TODAY 12 Faculty, staff and students of Northern State University mourned the loss of Mike Walsh, who died on July 8, 2008 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Walsh spent 29 years as a member of the NSU School of Business faculty serving as an assistant professor of accounting. Upon his retirement in 2005, Walsh was named Emeritus Assistant Professor of Accounting. He began several campus organizations developing, supporting and encouraging students both inside the classroom and onto their careers. While at Northern, Mike founded and advised the NSU Business Club, Accounting Club and started the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. His passion was teaching and learning, and that passion and enthusiasm allowed him to make many friends for the university. Walsh was a successful entrepreneur and utilized his business to cultivate support for NSU. In the last year he hosted NSU Football Fans at the first annual New Recruit Showcase, hosted alumni and friends at numerous pre-game receptions and was a staple in Gypsy Day festivities. “Mike expressed his love for Northern and our students in every waking hour of his day and through all of his activities.” said former NSU President Patrick Schloss. “He was an outstanding teacher, and joined by his wife Cindi, they have become extraordinary emissaries and leaders in providing personal resources for student scholarships. Our thoughts are with Cindi, their boys, and the many that called Mike a friend. His commitment to NSU will live in spirit though his gentle presence and his warm smile will be greatly missed.” NSU Mourns passing of Mike Walsh MIKE WALSH, Emeritus Assistant Professor of Accounting
