9 • Depending upon the student’s performance and course needs, the student may take the Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra & Statistics (QAS) test and/or the Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) test. • Rising Scholars students can test via the Accuplacer no more than 2 times in the Fall, and 2 times in the Spring. • After taking the Accuplacer, a Challenge Index (CI) is calculated using both the GPA and the Accuplacer test score; the CI then determines course placement. ENGLISH PLACEMENT For initial placement: If the student has current ACT or SAT scores or Smarter Balanced (SB) scores. Course placement requirements: To enroll in: Use the indicated ACT subscore or the SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing (ERW) subscore or the indicated SB subscore to determine placement. Choose the highest placement generated among the scores. ENGL 101 (Composition I) ACT English = 18+ or SAT ERW = 500+ or SB Writing = 2583+ For students who wish to challenge their initial placement, the rules below apply. • Students challenge their placement by taking the corresponding testing module in the Accuplacer testing system (Writing). • Rising Scholars students can test via the Accuplacer no more than twice. To enroll in: Minimum Accuplacer score ENGL 101 (Composition I) Writing = 263+ 1. Students are allowed one challenge to the original placement decision. Students can take the Accuplacer no more than twice to achieve a qualifying placement score. 2. If a student does not have any placement scores for the English/Math course requested, there would be no charge for the Accuplacer. 3. If a student does not meet the Rising Scholars eligibility requirements and wants to take an Accuplacer to try to become eligible, there would be a fee as they are challenging their program eligibility. 4. If challenging their eligibility or initial placement (of any kind), the student will pay for the Accuplacer test before testing.
